Vanessa Richardson
Illustrator

I am a multi-disciplined artist with a background in visual arts, performing arts and television. My passions are children’s book illustration and voiceover acting, but I also enjoy, and have done many, storyboards for television production, published book covers and spot illustrations, murals for children’s rooms, commissioned portraiture, children’s book illustrations and other various artwork.

Upon graduating from the University of the Arts in 1996, I went on to graduate school for my Masters in Art Education and Art Therapy. I then entered the workforce as a mock-up artist for a Point-of-Purchase design company in Cinnaminson, New Jersey. On weekends I taught art classes to seniors and was involved in many charity and volunteer organizations.

In 1998 I headed south to Miami, Florida where I went to work in the television post-production field. After two years coordinating post-production services at The Loft, I went to work with a production team doing a series called “Talelights” for the Bravo Channel.

In 2000 I joined the SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators)

I then headed back north, was commissioned to do a children’s book (not yet published) and then continued my work in the television industry working at Team Sound & Vision in Washington, DC, while continuing to work on illustrations part-time.

In 2003 I started VR illustration – finally ready to realize my dreams and with varied experiences under my belt and contacts all around.

In June of 2004 I also gave birth to my son Liam, my most precious creation.

So far I have had the pleasure of working with many talented and successful creative teams, networks and agencies including BBCAmerica, TLC, Cox Cable, The Ad Store, Spirit Creative, Team Sound & Vision, Cortina Productions, Dynamic Doingness Inc., National Geographic, Independent Filmmaker Silas Oluyole, local writer Mignon Pinson, Laura Young (Cheerful Hearts) and the Cure JM Foundation
